Third yoga experience down and I can say it has been a journey. I lift between 4-5 days a week when not traveling extensively. As you can probably guess, the gym can get boring at times so I decided to switch up on off days and some evenings by adding different classes and of course yoga.
My reservations – Yoga is advertised mostly toward women and though society is coming around to the idea that it’s for everyone – you don’t see many men running into a yoga studio. After having a private lesson with a friend who was becoming an instructor, I learned of the benefits, I felt the benefits and knew how helpful it could be for my body. After going to a few classes, you realize that men in fact, do take yoga – wow, look at that.
Many guys haven’t tried yoga, but let me tell you, most of us look or (looked) at it as a feminine workout, but most guys would know during their first class that this “aint no” easy stuff. The sweat (hot yoga or not), the pain, and the mental clarity is enlightening to everyone. You leave out of every class a little better than when you came in.
After breaking my femur (largest bone in the body) about two years ago, it feels good stretching and becoming more flexible. Yoga forces you to work through and sit through pain “come on somebody..don’t get me preachin’) I can record a whole video on that topic alone.
I say all this to say – if you haven’t already – try it. You’ll be glad you did. After the class is over that is.
