During Yoga Nidra we extend the HYPNOGOGIC state. This is the state that you pass through in between wakefulness and sleep. When the different sense organs start to slow down – the last sense organ being hearing. This is right before you fall asleep (perhaps you twitch a little as the muscle relax). Yoga Nidra intentionally extends this state in between waking and dreaming – the cohesion between conscious mind and subconscious self. One (1) hour of Yoga Nidra is said to have the same benefit of four (4) hours of traditional rest.

Yoga Nidra – known as yogic sleep – is a meditation and conscious relaxation in between states of consciousness (waking and resting) – induces total physical, mental, and emotional relaxation. Changes the ‘fluctuations of the mind’ by slowing down brain wave frequencies.
